Instant Family is a genuinely funny and touching movie with real heart, that we felt actually highlighted some real issues. The characters (particularly the parents) were mostly played for laughs, but in between the predictable moments (see screaming toddler and rebellious teen) there were some really tender moments and some laugh out loud moments. A really enjoyable film with believable characters and touching, tender moments. It wasn't a film that we planned on seeing at all, in fact we had mocked the trailer every time we saw it but it happened to fit into our schedule one day and it was a real pleasure. It turns out that the writer/director was inspired by his own experiences adopting three hispanic kids. Perfect film for a relaxed afternoon with the family.
